Vocabulary and kanji

Imported from OpenJLPT, with vocabulary readings and glosses from JMdict / EDICT, and kanji readings and meanings from KANJIDIC2, by the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group. Community level assignments originate with Jonathan Waller. Supplied example translations come from Tatoeba (CC BY 2.0 FR).

Adaptations: selected N3/N2 entries, removed overlapping headwords, joined meanings, retained one supplied example where available, and linked kanji to vocabulary. Original teaching material

Grammar lessons and reading exercises were authored for this site. The bank contains 173 N2 and 58 N3 grammar entries. Most expanded grammar lessons use self-rated recall; the original 36 include multiple-choice form practice. The 60 reading passages include short notices, comparisons, opinions, and longer passages, each with an answer explanation.

What the numbers mean

These are unique study entries, not an official syllabus or a claim of complete exam coverage. Some forms are related. The JLPT does not publish a current exhaustive vocabulary, kanji, or grammar list. Community classifications can differ. A large bank includes words you may already know, and you do not need to treat every entry as new.

Timed checkpoints use site exercises and report raw accuracy, not JLPT scaled scores. For full-length practice, use the linked official workbooks. No official question papers are reproduced here.
